GIFs have no real compression to speak of, so a few seconds can run to many megabytes. Reducing the colors and frames brings the size down a long way. Type the limit you need, and the tool tries gentle settings first and only goes further if it has to.
Common questions
What gets changed to make it smaller?
First the number of colors, then the number of frames, and last the size on screen. Light only reduces colors. Strong does all three.
Will it still play at the same speed?
Yes. When frames are removed, the rest stay on screen longer, so the GIF lasts just as long and keeps its looping.
What if it can't be made smaller?
Then you get your original back, and the page says so. You'll never end up with a larger file.
Is it free to use?
Yes. There's no sign-up, and nothing is added to your file unless you ask for it.
What happens to my files?
