About this tool
Video files get large fast, and email and chat apps have limits. Choose a quality, or type the size you need and the compressor works out the bitrate for you, leaving room for the sound. If the new copy would come out larger, you get your original back instead.
Common questions
Can I make a video fit a 25 MB email limit?
Yes. Choose Fit under a file size and enter 25, or a little less, because attachments grow when they're sent. The tool measures the result and tries again if it runs over, so the file you get really is under the limit.
Why did my video's resolution go down?
A small file spread over a long, sharp video looks blocky. When that would happen, the tool lowers the resolution so the picture stays clean, and it tells you. You can turn this off.
H.264, H.265 or AV1?
H.264 plays on almost everything, so it's the default. H.265 and AV1 make smaller files, but they take longer and some older phones and TVs can't play them.
Is it free to use?
Yes. You can use it without an account a few times a day, and a free account raises the daily limit. Nothing is added to your file unless you ask for it.
What happens to my files?
Your files are only used to run the tool you chose, and they're deleted automatically after about 24 hours.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It all works in your browser, on any computer or phone.
