About this tool
Enter your monthly SIP, the yearly return you expect and the number of years. The estimate uses the formula fund-house calculators state, FV = P x [((1 + i)^n - 1) / i] x (1 + i), with i as the yearly return divided by 12. Add a yearly step-up to raise the SIP each year, or switch to a one-time lump sum. It is an estimate only: returns aren't guaranteed and mutual funds carry market risk.
Common questions
What is the SIP formula?
FV = P x [((1 + i)^n - 1) / i] x (1 + i), where P is the monthly amount, i the monthly return and n the number of months. The last (1 + i) counts each SIP from the start of its month. ₹10,000 a month at 12% for one year comes to ₹1,28,093.
Why does another calculator show a slightly lower figure?
Some turn the yearly return into a monthly one with (1 + r)^(1/12) - 1 instead of r / 12, which gives a little less. HDFC Mutual Fund's calculator does this, while Aditya Birla Capital's divides by 12. You can choose either here.
Are these returns guaranteed?
No. Mutual fund returns go up and down with the market, so the real value can be higher or lower than this estimate. Read the scheme documents before you invest.
What does step-up mean?
Your SIP rises by a fixed percent each year, often in line with a pay rise. With 10%, ₹10,000 a month becomes ₹11,000 in the second year and ₹12,100 in the third.
How is a lump sum worked out?
FV = amount x (1 + r)^years, growing once a year. ₹1 lakh at 12% for 10 years comes to about ₹3,10,585.
