How to look up a domain with WHOIS
- Enter a domain name.
- Select Look up.
- Read the registrar and dates, and open the raw record if you need more.
About this tool
Enter a domain to see who registers it, when it was created, when it expires, its status and its name servers. The lookup uses RDAP, the modern replacement for WHOIS, and falls back to classic WHOIS on port 43 when a domain ending has no RDAP service. The full raw record is saved so you can read it. Many registrars hide the owner's personal details, which is normal.
Common questions
Why is the owner's name missing?
Since privacy rules changed, most registrars hide personal details. The registrar and the dates are still shown.
Does it work for .in domains?
Yes. India's registry answers RDAP queries, and classic WHOIS is used if it does not.
What if I see a rate limit message?
Registries limit how often they answer. Wait a few minutes and try again.
Is it free to use?
Yes. There's no sign-up for everyday use, and a free account raises the daily limit if you need more.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It works in your browser on a computer or a phone.
Is what I enter kept?
It's only used to get your result. Some public answers, such as the branches for a pincode, are kept for a while so the next lookup is quicker, but nothing links them to you.
