How to convert a bank statement to Excel

  1. Add your statement PDF, and type its password if it's locked.
  2. Choose an Excel workbook or a CSV file.
  3. Select Bank Statement to Excel and download the spreadsheet.

Examples

Separate Withdrawal and Deposit columns: from an opening balance of ₹25,000.00, a UPI payment of ₹1,250.50 leaves ₹23,749.50, and a salary credit of ₹45,000.00 takes it to ₹68,749.50. Both rows add up, so their Check column says OK.

One Amount column with Dr/Cr beside it: a home loan EMI printed as 18,500.00 DR after a balance of 66,749.50 Cr goes in the Debit column, and 66,749.50 - 18,500.00 = 48,249.50, which matches the balance printed on the row.

A misread figure: if a ₹2,000.00 ATM withdrawal after a balance of ₹68,749.50 is printed or read as 2,600.00, while the row's balance is ₹66,749.50, the row is marked Check: expected 66,149.50. The next row is checked from the printed ₹66,749.50, so one error doesn't spread.

A 45-row statement over 3 pages, with the header repeated on each page and the opening balance only in the summary box at the end, gives 45 rows on the Transactions sheet, an opening balance of ₹25,000.00 and 45 of 45 rows adding up.

About this tool

Turn the PDF statement your bank emails into a spreadsheet you can sort, filter and total. Dates become real dates and amounts become real numbers, including figures like 1,23,456.78 and amounts marked Dr or Cr. Every row is checked against the running balance, and a row that doesn't add up is marked so you can compare it with the PDF. A Summary sheet gives the opening and closing balance, the totals and the result of the check.

Common questions

My statement is locked. Which password does it need?

The one your bank set. Banks often build it from details such as your date of birth, customer ID or part of your name, and the email that brought the statement usually says how. The password is only used to open the file, and it isn't saved or logged.

Which statement layouts can it read?

Statements with a row of column names such as Date, Narration, Withdrawal, Deposit and Balance. Separate Debit and Credit columns work, and so does one Amount column with Dr or Cr beside each figure or after it. Narrations that wrap onto several lines, headers repeated on every page, and opening, brought-forward and carried-forward rows are handled.

What does a row marked Check mean?

The balance before it, minus the debit, plus the credit, didn't come to the balance printed on that row. The figure it expected is shown beside it, and the Summary sheet lists those rows. A misread amount or a missing row is the usual cause, so compare them with the PDF.

Can it read a scanned statement?

Yes. The text is read from the page image, which can mistake one digit for another, so check every figure. The balance check helps you find the rows that went wrong. If most rows don't add up, you're told the table couldn't be read rather than given a wrong spreadsheet.

Is it free to use?

Yes. There's no sign-up, and nothing is added to your file unless you ask for it.

What happens to my files?

Your files are only used to run the tool you chose, and they're deleted automatically after about 24 hours.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It all works in your browser, on any computer or phone.
