About this tool
Paste HTML from a web page or an editor and get clean Markdown. Headings, bold and italic text, links, images, lists and code blocks are converted, and tables become Markdown tables with a header row. Pick hash or underlined headings, the list marker and fenced or indented code. Scripts and styles are dropped.
Common questions
How are tables converted?
Each table becomes a pipe table. The header row is the thead, or the first row if there is none. Pipes inside cells are escaped, and line breaks inside a cell become spaces.
What is lost in the conversion?
Markdown has no colours, fonts or page layout, so those are dropped. Merged table cells are not supported either. Text, structure and links are kept.
Is it safe to paste HTML from an unknown source?
Yes. The HTML is only read as text to convert it. Scripts are not run and are removed from the result.
Is it free to use?
Yes. There's no sign-up, and you can use it as often as you like.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. This tool runs inside your browser, so what you enter stays on your device.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It works in your browser on a computer or a phone.
