About this tool

Turn a picture of a page into text you can copy, search and edit. Before reading, the image is straightened, shadows are evened out and small text is enlarged, which helps a lot with phone photos. The text appears beside your image so you can spot mistakes, and you can download it as a plain TXT file or an editable Word document.

Common questions

Does it read handwriting?

Not well. This works on printed text. Neat handwriting may come through in part, but expect many mistakes.

Will the Word file keep the original layout?

No. You get the words in reading order, with paragraphs, but not the fonts, tables or pictures. To keep a PDF's layout, use PDF to Word.

How accurate is it?

On clear printed pages it gets the large majority of characters right, but not all of them. Blur, shadows, small print and fancy fonts all lower accuracy, so always read the result through.

Is it free to use?

Yes. There's no sign-up, and nothing is added to your file unless you ask for it.

What happens to my files?

Your files are only used to run the tool you chose, and they're deleted automatically after about 24 hours.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It all works in your browser, on any computer or phone.
