How to work out your in-hand salary
- Type your yearly CTC and the basic and HRA percentages from your offer letter.
- Choose how PF is worked out, whether PF, ESI and gratuity are in the CTC, and your state.
- Pick a tax regime and read the monthly take-home and the breakdown.
Examples
These use basic at 50% of CTC, HRA at 40% of basic, PF on the ₹25,000 ceiling, employer PF and gratuity inside the CTC, Maharashtra professional tax and the new regime.
CTC ₹6 lakh: gross pay is ₹45,798 a month. After ₹3,000 PF and ₹200 professional tax, and no income tax, you take home about ₹42,600 a month.
CTC ₹12 lakh: gross pay is ₹94,595 a month and taxable salary ₹11,35,140, which is under the ₹12.75 lakh that the rebate covers. Take-home is about ₹91,400 a month. With PF on the old ₹15,000 ceiling it is about ₹93,800.
CTC ₹20 lakh: income tax is ₹1,74,910 a year, about ₹14,576 a month, so take-home is about ₹1,41,900 a month and ₹17,02,490 a year.
CTC ₹2.64 lakh: gross pay comes to ₹19,517 a month, under the ₹21,000 ESI limit, so ₹146 ESI comes off along with ₹1,320 PF and ₹200 professional tax. Take-home is about ₹17,850 a month.
About this tool
Your CTC is what the job costs your employer, not what reaches your bank. Employer PF and gratuity sit inside it, and your own PF, professional tax and income tax come out of each month's pay. Enter the CTC and how it is split, and a table shows every part per month and per year, with the income tax worked out under the new or old regime.
Common questions
Why is my in-hand pay less than CTC divided by 12?
CTC includes your employer's PF and gratuity, which you don't receive each month. Your own PF, professional tax and income tax are then taken from your gross pay.
How is PF worked out?
You and your employer each pay 12% of your wages: basic pay, or half your fixed pay if allowances are more than half, as the labour codes say. It is only compulsory on wages up to the ceiling, which rose from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month on 17 September 2026. Many employers pay it on the full wages, so pick the option your payslip shows.
What is the 4.81% gratuity?
Gratuity is 15 days' wages for each year of service, counted on a 26-day month, which is 15 / 26 / 12 = 4.81% of wages a year. It is paid when you leave, after five years of service, or after one year on a fixed-term contract. So it is part of CTC but not of monthly pay.
Which professional tax rates are used?
Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal (new slabs from October 2026), Tamil Nadu at Chennai Corporation rates, Gujarat, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are built in. For another state, type the monthly amount from your payslip.
Is ESI included?
Yes, when your gross pay is ₹21,000 a month or less. Then 0.75% of it is deducted for ESI, and your employer pays 3.25%, usually out of the CTC. The limit is ₹25,000 for persons with disability, which this page doesn't ask about.
Are EDLI and PF admin charges included?
No. Employers also pay 0.5% of PF wages for EDLI insurance and 0.5% in admin charges. Offer letters rarely put these inside the CTC, so they aren't taken out here.
