About this tool

Paste JSON and get readable YAML for config files such as Docker Compose, Kubernetes and GitHub Actions. Values that YAML could misread, like the word no or a version number like 1.10, are put in quotes so they keep their meaning. A mistake in your JSON is reported with its line and column.

Common questions

Why are some values in quotes?

Plain YAML can read no as false and 1.10 as 1.1. Quotes keep those values as text. You can turn this off with the checkbox.

Are very large numbers safe?

Yes. Whole numbers beyond what JavaScript normally holds are kept digit for digit.

Does it support comments?

JSON has no comments, so the YAML has none either. Add them by hand afterwards.

Is it free to use?

Yes. There's no sign-up, and you can use it as often as you like.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. This tool runs inside your browser, so what you enter stays on your device.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It works in your browser on a computer or a phone.
