About this tool

Paste a YAML file and get JSON back. YAML versions disagree about words like yes, no and off, so you can pick 1.1 or 1.2 and see exactly what your tool will see. If the file has a mistake, you get the line and column instead of a vague failure.

Common questions

What is the difference between YAML 1.1 and 1.2?

In 1.1, words such as yes, no, on and off become true or false. In 1.2 they stay text. Many older tools still use 1.1.

Why did 1.10 become 1.1?

Unquoted, it is a number, and numbers have no trailing zeros. Write "1.10" in quotes to keep it as text. The page warns you when this happens.

What happens with several documents in one file?

Documents separated by --- are written as a JSON list.

Is it free to use?

Yes. There's no sign-up, and you can use it as often as you like.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. This tool runs inside your browser, so what you enter stays on your device.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It works in your browser on a computer or a phone.
