About this tool

Markup is the amount you add on top of your cost, written as a percent of that cost. Enter the cost and the markup you want to get the selling price, the profit and the matching margin. Margin and markup give different percentages for the same sale, so this page shows both with their formulas.

Common questions

How do I calculate a selling price from markup?

Multiply the cost by 1 plus the markup. A cost of 80 with a 25% markup sells for 80 x 1.25 = 100.

Is a 50% markup a 50% margin?

No. A 50% markup is a 33.3% margin. A 50% margin needs a 100% markup.

Can markup be over 100%?

Yes. A markup of 100% doubles the cost. Margin can never reach 100%.

Is it free to use?
