About this tool

Type a number and read it in words, as 1,234,567 is 'one million two hundred thirty-four thousand five hundred sixty-seven'. Switch to the Indian system to say lakh and crore instead of million. Decimals are read digit by digit, negative numbers start with 'minus', and numbers up to 36 digits are supported.

Common questions

What is the difference between the two systems?

The international system groups digits in threes (thousand, million, billion). The Indian system groups the first three, then twos (thousand, lakh, crore).

How are decimals read?

Digit by digit after 'point', so 3.14 is 'three point one four'.

How big a number can I use?

Up to 36 digits before the decimal point. Type very large numbers as text, so no digits are lost.

Is it free to use?
