About this tool

Lock one or several files in a ZIP that asks for a password. It uses AES-256, which is far stronger than the old ZIP password method. The names of the files can still be seen without the password, only the contents are locked. Windows Explorer can't open AES-256 ZIPs, so the receiver needs 7-Zip, WinRAR or WinZip.

Common questions

Can I open the ZIP in Windows Explorer?

Not usually. Explorer doesn't support AES-256 ZIPs. Use 7-Zip (free), WinRAR or WinZip.

Are the file names hidden?

No. A ZIP shows its list of file names to anyone. If names are private, put everything in one file with a neutral name first.

What if I forget the password?

It can't be recovered. Keep it safe.

Is it free to use?

Yes. You can use it without an account a few times a day, and a free account raises the daily limit. Nothing is added to your file unless you ask for it.

What happens to my files?

Your files are only used to run the tool you chose, and they're deleted automatically after about 24 hours.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It all works in your browser, on any computer or phone.
