How to remove the background from a photo
- Add one photo, or up to 20 at once.
- Choose Fast or High quality, then select Photo Background Remover.
- Drag the slider to check the edges, then download your PNG.
About this tool
Add a photo and get its subject back on a transparent background, at the same size as your original. After the cut-out, the edges are cleaned so hair keeps its strands and the old background color doesn't leave a pale halo. Drag the slider to compare the result with your original, then try the other quality setting if something looks wrong.
Common questions
Why is part of my subject missing?
The model has to guess what counts as the subject. Objects a person is holding, grass around an animal's feet and similar details can be cut away. Try High quality, which handles these better. Neither setting gets every photo right.
Is the result smaller than my photo?
No. The PNG has the same width and height as your original, and there's no watermark. A PNG is usually a larger file than the JPG it came from, because it stores transparency.
Can I still recover the old background from the PNG?
No. Fully transparent pixels are cleared when the file is saved, so the old background isn't hiding underneath.
Is it free to use?
Yes. There's no sign-up, and nothing is added to your file unless you ask for it.
What happens to my files?
Your files are only used to run the tool you chose, and they're deleted automatically after about 24 hours.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It all works in your browser, on any computer or phone.
