About this tool
Enter a price and choose whether to add VAT to it or remove VAT from it. The country list fills in a standard rate, and you can type any rate yourself, for example a reduced rate. Rates change from time to time, so check the current one with your tax office before you rely on it.
Common questions
How do I work out the price before VAT?
Divide the VAT-inclusive price by 1 plus the rate. At 20%, divide by 1.2. A total of 120 means 100 before VAT and 20 of VAT.
Are the country rates always up to date?
No. They are standard rates at the time of writing and governments change them. Edit the rate box to the figure you have been given.
Is VAT the same as GST?
They work the same way as a tax added at each stage of sale. India, Australia, Canada and a few other countries call it GST.
Is it free to use?
