About this tool

Paste Base64 and read what it holds. Standard and URL-safe forms are both accepted, padding is optional, and line breaks or a data: prefix are ignored. If the data is UTF-8 text, such as Hindi or emoji, you see it at once. If it is a file, like an image or a PDF, you can download it, and images are previewed.

Common questions

Why does it say the data is not text?

The Base64 is fine, but the bytes inside are not readable text. They are probably a file such as an image or a PDF. Use Download file to save it with the right ending.

Why do I get an invalid Base64 message?

Base64 only uses letters, digits, + and / (or - and _). The message names the first character that does not belong and its position. A length that is impossible usually means part of the text was cut off.

Does it need the = signs at the end?

No. They are optional when decoding, so text with the padding removed still works.

Is it free to use?

Yes. There's no sign-up, and you can use it as often as you like.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. This tool runs inside your browser, so what you enter stays on your device.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It works in your browser on a computer or a phone.
