About this tool
Old Hindi documents and many government files were typed in the Kruti Dev font. That text is really English letters that only look Hindi in that font, so it turns into gibberish anywhere else. Paste it here to get real Unicode Hindi or Marathi, which any phone, computer or website can show and search.
Common questions
Why does my Kruti Dev text look like Hkkjr?
Kruti Dev is a font, not a language setting. It draws ordinary letters as Hindi, so Hkkjr shows as भारत only while that font is chosen. Unicode stores the Hindi letters themselves, so they show correctly everywhere.
Does it handle joined letters and the i sign?
Yes. The ि that's typed before a letter, the reph र् that's typed after a syllable, half letters, and joined glyphs such as क्र, श्र, त्र, द्ध and ह्म are all put in the right Unicode order.
Does it work for Marathi and DevLys?
Yes. Marathi typed in Kruti Dev uses the same keys, with G for ळ. DevLys 010 uses the same layout as Kruti Dev 010. Other old fonts, such as Chanakya and Shree-Lipi, use different layouts and aren't supported.
What if part of my document is in English?
English words typed in the same document use the same keys, so they come out as Hindi letters. Convert only the Hindi part, or fix the English words afterwards.
Is it free to use?
Yes. There's no sign-up, and you can use it as often as you like.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. This tool runs inside your browser, so what you enter stays on your device.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It works in your browser on a computer or a phone.
