About this tool
Shrink a podcast or lecture to fit a phone, an upload form or an email. Choose a bitrate, or type the size you need and the right one is worked out for you. For speech, mono saves a lot more space with no real loss, and tags and cover art stay in place.
Common questions
How low can I go before it sounds bad?
For music, 128 kbps is usually fine and 96 kbps starts to sound thin. Speech stays clear at 64 kbps or lower, especially in mono.
What if my file is already small?
If compressing wouldn't make it smaller, you get your original back unchanged and the page tells you.
What does Mix down to mono do?
It combines the left and right channels into one, which needs only about half the data. It suits speech, but music loses its width.
Is it free to use?
Yes. There's no sign-up, and nothing is added to your file unless you ask for it.
What happens to my files?
Your files are only used to run the tool you chose, and they're deleted automatically after about 24 hours.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It all works in your browser, on any computer or phone.
