How to resize an image for social media

  1. Add one or more photos.
  2. Choose the size, then crop to fill or keep the whole photo.
  3. Select Social Media Image Resizer and download the result.

Examples

A 4000 × 3000 phone photo as a YouTube thumbnail: Fill keeps the middle 4000 × 2250 and scales it to 1280 × 720, so 375 pixels go from the top and from the bottom. Choose Keep the top to cut only from the bottom.

A 1600 × 1200 photo as a LinkedIn background: Fill keeps a 1600 × 400 strip, a third of the height. Show the whole photo instead places it at 528 × 396 in the middle, with a blur of it on either side.

A 1080 × 1080 square post as a WhatsApp Status: it fills the width, with 420 pixels of background above and below it.

About this tool

Every platform wants its own size, from a 2560 × 1440 YouTube banner to a 400 × 400 LinkedIn photo. Pick where the picture is going and it comes out at exactly that size. The preview marks what each platform crops, so you can check faces and text before you download.

Common questions

Where do these sizes come from?

From each platform's own help pages, read on 3 November 2026. WhatsApp publishes no sizes, so its status uses 1080 × 1920, the 9:16 shape of a phone screen.

What's the difference between filling and showing the whole photo?

Fill makes the photo cover the frame and crops whatever doesn't fit. Show the whole photo keeps all of it, and fills the gaps with a blur of the same photo or a plain color.

Will the file be small enough to upload?

Yes, where a platform sets a limit. A JPG is kept under 2 MB for a YouTube thumbnail, 6 MB for a banner and 8 MB for LinkedIn, and a Facebook cover under 100 KB, as Facebook suggests for a quick load.

Can I resize several photos at once?

Yes. Add up to 100, and each one comes out at the size you chose, together in one ZIP.

Is it free to use?

Yes. You can use it without an account a few times a day, and a free account raises the daily limit. Nothing is added to your file unless you ask for it.

What happens to my files?

Your files are only used to run the tool you chose, and they're deleted automatically after about 24 hours.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It all works in your browser, on any computer or phone.
