How to check an image for social media
- Choose an image or drop it on the page.
- Read the result for each platform.
- Open the resizer for any size that doesn't fit.
Examples
A 1920 × 1080 screenshot fits a YouTube thumbnail as it is, because it's 16:9 and wider than 640 pixels. As a LinkedIn background it needs cropping: a 4:1 strip keeps only 1920 × 480, so 56% would go.
A 1200 × 1200 logo fits Facebook and LinkedIn profile photos and a WhatsApp DP, because all three are square and it's larger than 400 × 400.
A 2000 × 1125 banner is 16:9 but under YouTube's 2048 × 1152 minimum, so it's marked Too small, with a link to YouTube Banner Resizer.
About this tool
Before you upload a banner or a profile photo, see whether it already fits. Add an image and each platform's size is checked: the shape, the smallest size it takes, the file size limit and the file types it accepts. Where it doesn't fit, a link opens the resizer for that size. Your image stays in your browser.
Common questions
What does Needs cropping mean?
The image is a different shape from the one the platform wants, so filling the frame would cut part of it away. The result says how much, such as 25% for a 4:3 photo used as a 16:9 thumbnail.
Which sizes are checked?
YouTube thumbnails and banners, Facebook covers and profile pictures, LinkedIn backgrounds and profile photos, and WhatsApp profile photos and statuses. Each comes from the platform's help pages, read on 3 November 2026.
Is my image uploaded?
No. It's read by your browser and stays on your device.
Why can't it open my HEIC photo?
Most browsers can't read HEIC. Use Image Dimensions Checker, which reads it on the server, or convert the photo with HEIC to JPG first.
Is it free to use?
Yes. There's no sign-up, and you can use it as often as you like.
