How to convert a video to WAV
- Add one or more videos.
- Select Video to WAV.
- Download your WAV files.
Examples
A 3-minute MP4 with stereo sound at 48 kHz gives a WAV of about 35 MB, because uncompressed sound at that rate takes around 11.5 MB a minute.
Interview footage from a camera that records 24-bit sound. The WAV stays 24-bit, so nothing is lost before you clean up the sound in an editor.
Twelve lecture videos for a transcription service that only takes WAV. Add them all at once and download one ZIP file with a WAV for each video.
About this tool
WAV stores sound without compression, so it opens in almost every audio editor and loses nothing more when you edit it. Add a video and you get its sound as a standard WAV file. Sound recorded at 24 bits, as some cameras do, stays 24-bit, and several videos at once come back together in one ZIP file.
Common questions
Does WAV improve the sound?
No. It can't add anything that isn't in the video's sound, but it won't lose any more either. That makes it a good choice for editing, where saving an MP3 again loses a little more each time.
Why is the WAV file so large?
WAV doesn't compress the sound. Stereo at 48 kHz takes around 11.5 MB a minute, roughly ten times the size of a typical MP3.
Does it keep the original sample rate?
Yes. The WAV uses the same sample rate as the sound in the video, such as 44.1 or 48 kHz.
Is it free to use?
Yes. You can use it without an account a few times a day, and a free account raises the daily limit. Nothing is added to your file unless you ask for it.
What happens to my files?
Your files are only used to run the tool you chose, and they're deleted automatically after about 24 hours.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It all works in your browser, on any computer or phone.
