How to make a WhatsApp sticker from a photo

  1. Add a photo, or several for a batch.
  2. Choose whether to remove the background, then set the outline and text.
  3. Select WhatsApp Sticker Maker and download the WebP and PNG.

Examples

A 4000 × 3000 photo kept whole with square corners: it's scaled to 464 × 348, so with its 8 pixel white outline it fills the 480 pixel width inside WhatsApp's 16 pixel margin.

With Good morning below the picture at text size 72, the text takes the bottom 80 pixels inside the margin, and the picture shrinks to fit the space above it.

When a busy photo would pass 100 KB at quality 90, the quality is lowered until it fits. In our tests, pictures of pure noise, the hardest kind to compress, came to 140 to 149 KB at quality 90 and needed quality 76 to 79 to come in just under 100 KB.

Ticking Also make a 96 × 96 tray icon adds a small PNG of the first sticker. At 96 × 96 pixels it can't come near WhatsApp's 50 KB limit: even uncompressed it would be about 37 KB.

Using your sticker in WhatsApp

On a phone: save the PNG to your photos. In a WhatsApp chat, open the sticker tray, tap Create and pick the picture. WhatsApp's custom sticker maker, which its blog says is on Android and iPhone, lets you crop it, add text or draw, and saves it in your sticker tray.

On WhatsApp Web or Desktop: WhatsApp's help pages didn't describe making a sticker there when we checked on 4 November 2026, so we can't promise it works. If your sticker panel shows a Create option, choose the PNG there.

For a whole pack: WhatsApp adds packs only through a separate sticker app on your phone, with 3 to 30 stickers in each pack and a 96 × 96 tray icon. Make the stickers here, then follow the app's own steps to build the pack.

About this tool

Make a sticker of your pet, a friend's funny face or your shop's logo. The background can be cut out by the photo AI on this server, then the picture gets a white outline and optional text, such as Happy Diwali, in English or Hindi. You get the 512 × 512 WebP that WhatsApp's sticker rules ask for, kept under 100 KB, and a PNG of the same sticker.

Common questions

How do I use the sticker in WhatsApp?

Save the PNG to your phone. In a WhatsApp chat, open the sticker tray, tap Create and pick the picture from your photos. WhatsApp's own sticker maker, on Android and iPhone, lets you crop it or add text, then keeps it in your sticker tray.

Can I add a whole sticker pack to WhatsApp?

Not from files alone. WhatsApp's rules say a pack holds 3 to 30 stickers and is added through a separate sticker app on your phone, one pack at a time. Build the pack in such an app, using the PNGs or the WebP files and tray icon, whichever it asks for.

What size is a WhatsApp sticker?

WhatsApp asks for exactly 512 × 512 pixels, a WebP under 100 KB, and a 16 pixel margin around the picture. It suggests an 8 pixel white outline, so a sticker shows up on any chat background. A pack's tray icon is 96 × 96 pixels and under 50 KB.

What if the sticker would be over 100 KB?

The WebP's quality is lowered step by step until it's under 100 KB, and the size stays 512 × 512. Busy, grainy photos need it most. The PNG has no limit, so it can be larger.

Does background removal always work?

It works on a photo with one clear subject, such as a person or a pet. If no clear subject is found you'll see a note, and you can turn off Remove the background to use the whole photo with rounded corners or as a circle.

Is it free to use?

Yes. There's no sign-up, and nothing is added to your file unless you ask for it.

What happens to my files?

Your files are only used to run the tool you chose, and they're deleted automatically after about 24 hours.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It all works in your browser, on any computer or phone.
