How to resize a Facebook profile picture

  1. Add your photo.
  2. Crop to the middle, or keep the whole photo in the circle.
  3. Select Facebook Profile Picture Resizer and download it.

Examples

A 3000 × 4000 portrait selfie: Fill keeps the middle 3000 × 3000 and scales it to 320 × 320. Choose Keep the top so the square starts at your hair, not your chest.

A 1600 × 900 photo of two people: with the whole photo inside the circle, it's placed at 279 × 157 in the middle, so both faces stay inside the round crop.

About this tool

Facebook crops every profile picture to a circle, so the corners of your photo never show. Add a photo and it comes out as a 320 × 320 square, the size Facebook's help gives. Crop to the middle, or shrink the whole photo to sit inside the circle on a blurred or plain background.

Common questions

What size is a Facebook profile picture?

Facebook's help says it should be 320 × 320 pixels. It shows at 176 × 176 on computers and 196 × 196 on phones, cropped to a circle.

How do I keep my whole photo inside the circle?

Choose Show the whole photo, then turn on Keep the whole photo inside the area every screen shows. The photo shrinks until its corners touch the circle, and the space around it takes a blur or a color.

Can I upload a larger picture?

Yes. Facebook takes larger pictures and shrinks them. 320 × 320 is the size its help asks for, and it's already larger than the picture is ever shown.

Is it free to use?

Yes. You can use it without an account a few times a day, and a free account raises the daily limit. Nothing is added to your file unless you ask for it.

What happens to my files?

Your files are only used to run the tool you chose, and they're deleted automatically after about 24 hours.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It all works in your browser, on any computer or phone.
