About this tool

Common questions
How is it different from the Hindi page?
Three rules change for Marathi. ृ is ru, not ri, as in Krushna. ज्ञ is dny, not gy, as in Dnyaneshwar. And the a after joined letters at the end of a word is kept, as Marathi says it: धर्म is Dharma and शब्द is Shabda.
Is the a in the middle of a word dropped too?
Yes, by the same rule as Hindi, so तेंडुलकर is Tendulkar and मंगेशकर is Mangeshkar. Some families keep that a in their spelling, such as गोखले, which comes out Gokhle but is usually written Gokhale.
How is ळ written?
As l, the way Marathi names and places are usually spelled: सकाळ gives Sakal and कोळी gives Koli. ISO 15919 writes it ḷ.
