About this tool

Paste your text to see how many paragraphs it has. Paragraphs are blocks separated by one or more blank lines, and a line holding only spaces counts as blank. The page also shows the number of lines, sentences and words, which helps when a brief asks for a set number of paragraphs.

Common questions

What counts as a paragraph?

A block of text with a blank line before and after it. Lines that only wrap on screen are not separate paragraphs. Several blank lines in a row still count as one break.

Why is the line count different?

Every line break starts a new line, but only a blank line starts a new paragraph. A paragraph can hold many lines.

Will text copied from Word work?

Yes, if the paragraphs are separated by a blank line when you paste. If Word pastes them with only a single line break, use the line count instead.

Is it free to use?

Yes. There's no sign-up, and you can use it as often as you like.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. This tool runs inside your browser, so what you enter stays on your device.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It works in your browser on a computer or a phone.
