About this tool
Type a password to see an honest estimate of how many guesses it would take. It uses zxcvbn, which looks for common words, names, dates, keyboard patterns and repeats, not just the mix of characters. Your password never leaves the page. An optional breach check is off until you turn it on.
Common questions
Is it safe to type my real password here?
The check runs in your browser and nothing is sent. Even so, it is wise to test a similar password rather than one you use today.
What does the breach check send?
Only if you tick it and press the button, the first 5 characters of a hash of the password are sent to haveibeenpwned.com. The password itself never leaves.
Are the crack times exact?
No. They are estimates that assume certain guessing speeds. Treat them as a way to compare passwords.
Is it free to use?
Yes. There's no sign-up, and you can use it as often as you like.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. This tool runs inside your browser, so what you enter stays on your device.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It works in your browser on a computer or a phone.
