About this tool

Turn an article, a notice or your notes into audio you can listen to anywhere. Choose a voice, set the speed, and download an MP3 or WAV. Long text is split at sentence ends, so nothing is cut off, and paragraphs get a longer pause. These voices are clear, but you'll hear that they're computer voices. They're fine for proofreading and listening on the go, less so for a polished advert.

Common questions

How natural do the voices sound?

They're understandable but plainly synthetic, with flat emphasis. The two higher quality voices sound the most natural. Names, abbreviations and numbers are sometimes said oddly.

How much text can I convert?

Up to 50,000 characters at a time, which is around an hour of speech. The two higher quality English voices take 15,000 characters, because they run more slowly.

Can I use the audio in a video?

Yes. These voices were trained on public domain recordings, which carry no terms of their own.

Is it free to use?

Yes. There's no sign-up, and you can use it as often as you like.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It works in your browser on a computer or a phone.

Is what I enter kept?

It's only used to get your result. Some public answers, such as the branches for a pincode, are kept for a while so the next lookup is quicker, but nothing links them to you.
