How to split trip expenses

  1. Add everyone on the trip, with UPI IDs if you want pay links.
  2. Add each expense as it happens: the amount, who paid and who shares it.
  3. At the end, read who pays whom and copy the summary to the group.

Examples

A Goa trip for four: Asha pays ₹12,000 for the hotel and Ravi ₹4,000 for fuel, both shared by all four, and Meera pays ₹2,400 for a dinner Kabir skipped. That's ₹18,400 in all. The shares are ₹4,800 each for Asha, Ravi and Meera and ₹4,000 for Kabir. To settle up, Kabir pays Asha ₹4,000, Meera pays Asha ₹2,400 and Ravi pays Asha ₹800.

Three friends where two paid: Asha ₹9,000 for the stay and Ravi ₹6,000 for the cab, split equally. Each share is ₹5,000, so Meera pays Asha ₹4,000 and Ravi ₹1,000.

About this tool

On a group trip, different people pay for different things. Add everyone going, then each expense as it happens: the hotel, fuel, tolls, meals and tickets, with who paid and who it was for. Leave someone out of a dinner they skipped, or split by shares. At the end, the page shows each person's balance and the payments that settle everything, ready to share in the group chat.

Common questions

Is the trip saved if I close the page?

Yes, in this browser on this device, so you can keep adding expenses through the trip. It's kept apart from the Split Bill page. Nothing is sent anywhere, so copy the summary before you clear your browser.

Can someone skip an expense?

Yes. Untick them for an equal split, or give them 0 shares or ₹0. Their balance then only counts what they were part of.

How many payments will it take to settle up?

At most one fewer than the number of people. The largest debt is settled against the largest credit first. That is often the fewest possible, though not always.

What if two people paid for one expense?

Enter it as two expenses, one for each person's part, with the same people sharing both. The balances come out the same, give or take a paisa of rounding.

Is it free to use?

Yes. There's no sign-up, and you can use it as often as you like.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

Do I need to install anything?
